Our CES 2018
Jean-Philippe Encausse, CTO Innovation and Ari Kouts, VISEO Innovation Consultant, were in Las Vegas to attend CES, the world's largest event dedicated to technological innovations. Follow their adventures day by day!
Jean-Philippe Encausse, CTO VISEO Innovation, and Ari Kouts, Innovation Consultant, attended CES (Consumer Electronics Show) together to represent VISEO and to look for new opportunities, future partnerships and innovative ideas. They shared their daily lives.
DAY ONE
First video dedicated to the discovery of CES 2018, with some interviews in the heart of the French Tech, beer tasting and the unmatched nightlife of Vegas!
The first day pre #CES2018 ends after a long journey of more than 26 hours. After a long quest in search of their hotel and all the official documents, JP & Ari have finally been able to admire the splendors of Las Vegas, somewhere between Disneyland and Sin City.
Arrived at CES at 18h, the whole place is already seething with excitement: all startups are busy in EurekaPark to build their exhibition stands and be well-prepared for the arrival of the 160,000 visitors expected the next day. We can notice a huge presence of FrenchTech: french can be heard in every corner!
A good atmosphere that allowed them to discuss with several startups, including Boarding Ring that proposes to end the motion sickness inherent in virtual reality devices, using miniature screens that accompany the peripheral vision. Ari has also been able to test a low tech version that cancels motion sickness!
DAY 2
What did JP & Ari see on this second day? What are the major trends of the show? JP tells you everything!
JP & Ari explored EurekaPark to discover the innovations of hundreds of startups grouped by country and by region.
They have tested dozens of innovations, made many interviews (coming soon). Are to remember (among others):
- Snips that we meet regularly, soon integrated into the VISEO Bot Maker and that could be the French answer to voice assistants
- Mbientlab, a high potential IoT sensor. They recognized Jean-Philippe, maybe because he bothers them since their debut on Kickstarter.
- UpTV that could transform TV as a point of notification
A big trend this year is the omnipresence of robots in all their forms, which gives the impression of being in a sci-fi movie for the best .... and also for the worst!
The end of this second day was marked by the "debrief" of David Menga around the generalization of the vocal assistants, then the FrenchTech evening with Mounirand finally the opening night of CES.
DAY 3
A third day in the twilight zone for JP and Ari !
Our two collaborators went on for a live chat with the GeekInc Podcast to compare their vision from inside
Then they went to see the big brands. They will remember especially:
- the car occupied a gigantic place. As an ehxibition stand just including a car does not attract visitors, car manufactures compete of ingeniousness to propose stunning shows.
- amazingly thin TV with ultra-realistic renderings
- the household appliances that become the spearhead of both home automation and voice assistants
Their general feeling is that techno is rationalized with a triptique smartcity / smarthome, smartenergie, smartcity
Alexa is present in all the objects but it's really Google that steals the show this year on both form and substance.
Then JP and Ari met some domotics experts such as Hervé (abavala), Domadoo, TouteLaDomotique...
DAY 4
The final chapter of our adventures !
Our collaborators went to discover EurekaPark where all the companies that have gone beyond the startup stage have found their Product Market Fit.
It was an opportunity to find all the new products around the connected home with a lot of French and discussions around conversational assistants.
A third of the hall was focused on sport, where JP & Ari especially met CWD Sellier who presented his connected equestrian saddle.
